City trips are the perfect way to spend a midweek break and still see as much as possible of the city. I have certainly not visited every country in Europe, but still quite a few well-known cities. Here you can read my personal top 8 cities for the best citytrips in Europe.

8. Oslo
Maybe not an obvious city for one of the best citytrips, but the capital of Norway has enough to offer for a nice midweek break. Discover city life and beautiful nature. Oslo is not a very busy city and it is very clean! Visit the Karl Johans Gate if you like shopping and visit Vigeland Park for a nice walk among all the special sculptures. Bergen is also a very nice city with the colorful houses and the large fish market.

7. London
A hip and vibrant city, both during the day and at night. From fish and chips in the pub to Jamie Oliver’s restaurant. From historic sites to modern museums, London has it all. Visit the London Eye, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Tower Bridge, the department store ‘Harrods’ and the busy Picadilly circus. Get in a traditional red telephone box or in a real London black taxi. You can easily spend a week in lively London.
6. Prague
Prague is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to beautiful historic structures. There is plenty to do in Prague both during the day and at night. It is a real hip city. Walk across the Charles Bridge, visit Prague Castle and the Old Town Square with the famous Astronomical Clock. An advantage of the city is that it is not very expensive!

5. Paris
The city of love. Paris is very big and there’s a lot to do and see. Stroll along the Seine or in beautiful city parks, sit on one of the many terraces, enjoy French cuisine and visit the many beautiful museums. The city has several museums, such as the Louvre, Rodin Museum, Center Georges Pompidou, Museum d’Orsay and much more.

4. Barcelona
Barcelona, the largest city in Catalonia, is very nice to visit for a few days. The many buildings designed by Gaudí are a feast for the eyes. You can also go shopping and eat well. The beautiful sights in Barcelona make the city perfect for a city trip.

3. Athens
The ancient Greek city of Athens certainly belongs in the list for one of the best citytrips. It’s a perfect city for a nice citytrip because of the many sights. Athens has a lot to offer and the Greek cuisine is delicious! Visit the famous Acropolis, the ancient temples and archaeological sites and stroll through the nice neighborhoods.

2. Budapest
This beautiful photogenic city has so many sights, so you can easily stay here for a few days. Visit the opera, the famous parliament and one of the many spas and baths. Budapest is separated by the Danube into two parts: Buda and Pest. Both districts have their highlights and the many sights in Budapest ensure that you will not get bored quickly.

1. Rome
Rome was definitely one of my best citytrips. On every corner you will find a beautiful fountain, sculptures or a beautiful cathedral. Visit the Trevi Fountain, the Colloseum, the Pantheon, St. Peter’s and many beautiful churches. The Italian cuisine is also really delicious and I would like to enjoy it every day! You really must have visited Rome once in your life.
