Are you planning a visit to beautiful Krabi in Thailand? Then be sure to visit Tha Pom Klong Song Nam. It’s really recommended because you hardly encounter other tourists and it’s very beautiful. And let’s be honest, taking a refreshing dip in this Blue Lagoon looks very attractive, isn’t it?

I spend a lot of time on my motorbike in Krabi. I thought it was wonderful to drive around the area. The roads are in good condition and the green environment with the limestone mountains is super impressive. Another advantage of driving through Krabi is that all sights are clearly indicated on signs with photo along the road. Handy, right?

So after a few days driving to the amazing Dragon Crest Viewpoint and the Tiger Cave Temple, I saw quite a few signs with sights passing by. Similarly from the Tha Pom Klong Song Nam. The Tha Pom what? Yes, it’s quite a mouthful …

After doing some research on the internet and finding the location on Maps of this tongue breaker, I got quite excited about it. Green mangrove forest, crystal clear blue water with the steep rising limestone mountains in the background. It looked beautiful! So I got on my motorbike again and drove to this Blue Lagoon.

Of to: Tha Pom Klong Song Nam!

And it was quite a drive. But with the help of navigation on Maps and with an eye on the roadside signs, the route wasn’t that difficult at all. On arrival there was enough space in the parking lot to park my motorbike for free.

After I bought the ticket, I quickly ended up on a wooden walkway. This long path winds through the mangrove forest over the crystal clear blue water. It is a very beautiful route and it reminded me a bit of the Krka National Park in Croatia.

The water level seemed lower than normal as some parts of the lake were clearly dry (I was there in January). Nevertheless, it was a beautiful area.

I had read on the internet that you can also swim at the Tha Pom Klong Song Nam. The sweat was dripping from me and my clothes stuck after the long scooter ride, so I really wanted to jump into the water! Unfortunately, halfway through the route, I still didn’t see a place to jump into the water. Everywhere there were signs that swimming is prohibited. “You’re not going to be serious!” I thought.

But then I heard people splashing in the water in the distance. And yes, at the end of the route is a lovely swimming spot in the clear blue water!

With a little luck you can also spot monitor lizards. I saw a beautiful monitor lizard swimming after I had been in the water. But fear not, in principle they are more afraid of you than you of them!

Varaan Thailand Krabi

The Tha Pom Klong Song Nam is often visited by locals for walking and to cool off with the whole family in the water. Keep in mind that the local women cover themselves almost completely while swimming and so they’re not used (and sometimes do not appreciate it) if you walk around in your bikini there. So bring an extra set of clothes for swimming!

Prize for the Tha Pom Klong Song Nam

As a tourist, you pay 100 baht per person for this activity in Krabi. Children cost 50 baht.

The price difference between tourists and locals is unfortunately quite large. Locals pay a maximum of 10 to 20 baht. For us, 100 baht is still not expensive, but a bit wry that as a tourist you pay more than 5 times as much. It obviously says something about the amount of tourists in Krabi.

How to get to the Tha Pom Klong Song Nam

The Tha Pom Klong Song Nam can only be reached by scooter or possibly by taxi. It’s quite a drive from both Krabi Town and Ao Nang. It takes about 40 minutes from Krabi Town and about 45 minutes from Ao Nang. But you will be treated to fantastic views during the route!
