Menorca: experiences & tips

Menorca is a Spanish island located in the Mediterranean Sea next to Mallorca and Ibiza. Menorca is a lot quieter and less touristy than the neighboring islands, which makes it a perfect holiday destination.

A holiday in Menorca will mainly consist of relaxing on the many beaches and walking in nature and through the small streets in the cities. Renting a car provides more options and flexibility. The island is still relatively large and distances are easiest to bridge with a car.

Strangely enough, relatively few tourists come to Menorca. Tourists mainly visit the other Spanish islands such as Mallorca and Ibiza. The island is the second largest island in the Balearic Islands. It is bigger than Ibiza but smaller than Mallorca.

The island has a hill / rocky landscape. There are many cliffs but also a lot of beaches with beautiful turquoise sea water. It is highly recommended to bring your snorkel gear because the water is very clear. You can really snorkel here. I have seen a lot of beautiful fish. Try to snorkel especially at rocky beaches. Here the water does not become cloudy from the sand.

The climate in Menorca

The island has warm summers and mild winters. Around April, the temperature rises to about 20 degrees through September. Despite the many hours of sunshine and little rainfall, the island is very green. There are many plants and trees. In 1993 Menorca was even declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO.

Ciutadella de Menorca and the capital Mahón are the best cities for shopping. In the old town you will find beautiful historical buildings. Many shops are closed at noon because of the siesta, the afternoon nap that many Spaniards use.
