Algarve is a holiday region in the south of Portugal. The area runs from the border with Spain to the west coast. It is recommended to rent a car if you have the opportunity. The area is very large and the distances between different cities / places of interest is quite big. I visited Algrave in 2010 which is already a long time ago. Yet it is a destination that will stay with me thanks to the beautiful nature, the delicious food and the beautiful weather.

From our accommodation most beautiful beaches among the rocks were within walking distance. By means of a staircase, carved in the cliff, you arrived at the sandy beach. The water is very clear, so snorkel gear is not superfluous!

Carvoeiro

Formerly called Praja de Carvoeiro, covers an area of about 14 km². It is a nice town right on the beach. The beautiful sandy beaches are surrounded by high cliffs. Over the years, the city has become increasingly touristy. It is definitely worth strolling through the center. There are nice shops that sell souvenirs, but also rugs, jewelry, figurines, etc.

Barragem reservoir

If you like peace and nature, a trip around the reservoir is recommended. It is very quiet and you have a beautiful view over the reservoir. You hardly see any other cars. On such a hot day it can also be nice and cool due to the cool breeze. Of course you cannot swim in the lake!
